Event Details
WEDO, the Women’s Environment and Development Organization, in partnership with the UNFCCC Secretariat, and with the support of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands and Iceland, is pleased to invite delegates to participate in a two-evening workshop- covering negotiation skills and technical language training- on behalf of the Women Delegates Fund (WDF) Program.
This two-night series will focus on drafting text for interventions, decisions and other written outcomes of the negotiating process, with the aim of strengthening the participants’ capacity to participate effectively in the negotiating process. The training will include experiential learning through a mock negotiation exercise and provide a set of tools and materials that participants can utilize in upcoming UNFCCC meetings. Beyond the training, we aim for these two nights to provide a space for engaging with other women delegates.
In 2014, Parties to the UNFCCC, via Decision 18/CP.20, established the Lima Work Programme on Gender, which reinforces the goals of the WDF by encouraging Parties and observers to support: building the skills and capacity of their female delegates to effectively participate in UNFCCC meetings via training on, inter alia, negotiation skills, drafting of legal language and strategic communication.
Participants who can most benefit from this training will be newer women delegates with limited experience in the UNFCCC negotiation process (0-1 years); experienced delegates who are interested in honing their negotiation skills; delegates interested in broadening their network of delegates working in the UNFCCC. NOTE: for those who have already attended this Night School, preference will be given to first time participants, though space provided, all are welcome.
There is no fee to join this training but space is limited. To apply for a place, please complete this form, https://goo.gl/forms/3GMTMyX4wY3054cs2 by Wednesday 25 October 2017. Certificates are provided at completion of the training.
If you have any additional questions, please feel free to e-mail Vera Zhou, vera@wedo.org. We look forward to your participation in this important session.
