On Day 1 of COP30, 92 countries came together to affirm that gender equality is essential to climate action.

In a new Global Statement on Gender Equality and Climate Action, governments reaffirmed their shared commitment to human rights and gender-responsive climate policies.

On behalf of the Women and Gender Constituency (WGC), WEDO Policy Director Mwanahamisi Singano responded, “The willingness of so many countries to unite behind gender equality at the start of COP30 is both powerful and necessary. Now we urge Parties to bring that same energy, unity, and ambition into the negotiation rooms.”
