This paper focuses on women’s role in local government in the Indian context.
The ideology of division of labor forces women to be confined to the private sphere of life & restricts women’s existence within domestic roles as wives & mothers. The male hegemony prevails in the decision-making processes both in private as well as public domains. Politics should be a democratic, participatory, accountable & transparent means to bring about a just, humane & equitable society.
