NEW YORK (September 17, 2013) – The Global Gender and Climate Alliance (GGCA) announces that 14 GGCA members will attend the International Women’s Earth and Climate Summit from September 20-23 in New York. The IWECI Summit will convene 100 women to identify the urgent steps needed to combat climate change through drafting the Women’s Climate Action Agenda.

“The climate crisis demands a response that includes and benefits both men and women” said Nathalie Eddy, GGCA Coordinator. “GGCA welcomes the opportunity to join forces with 100 women leaders on the front lines of climate change. This is an exciting year for gender.”

“Spaces like the IWECI Summit are crucial to co-create a shared commitment for building a diverse and inclusive climate justice movement, where women’s wisdom, experiences and agency for leading just climate action is recognized, celebrated and promoted” said Rucha Chitnis, South Asia Program Director for Women’s Earth Alliance.

“Change is not something which you wait for, it’s something that you make happen” shared Bridget Burns, Advocacy and Communications Director for Women’s Environment & Development Organization. “Now is the time to face the climate crisis, ignite the women’s movement to demand action, prepare the next generation of women leaders and start changing paradigms once and for all.”
