NEW YORK (February 3, 2013)– WEDO is excited to be participating in the 2013 New Directions in Environmental Law Conference on March 2, 2013 at Yale Law School in New Haven, Connecticut. This year’s conference, entitled The Power of Voice, will be the third in Yale Law’s New Directions in Environmental Law series and will build on momentum created over the past two years.  The 2011 foundational conference, A Climate of Possibility, featured Georgetown Law professor Lisa Heinzerling as a keynote speaker and explored the problems, challenges, and potential new directions in environmental law and policy.  Last year’s conference, [Re]Claiming Accountability, featured California Air Resources Board Chairman Mary Nichols and examined the scope and dimensions of accountability and innovative legal mechanisms for achieving it.

This year’s conference, The Power of Voice, will examine what and who motivates change in environmental law and policy and how different actors pursue and achieve that change.  The keynote address will be delivered by Rolling Stone journalist and environmental author Jeff Goodell, and panels and workshops will explore topics ranging from animal agriculture to hydraulic fracturing to human rights.

From 11:30am to 12:30pm, WEDO will host a workshop entitled Empowering Women’s Voices During Climate Change Negotiations which will explore how climate change impacts women around the globe and specifically on the vital role they play in shaping and implementing polices and programs to address these impacts. Discussions will also examine recent decisions on women’s participation at the UNFCCC and the implications of this for future decision-making.

Registration is now open. You can visit the conference website for more information or following updates on Twitter!
