New York, June 25–As discussions intensify on UN reform at the UN Headquarters in NY, WEDO is closely following the “One UN,” or “Delivering as One” reform processes at the national level. WEDO’s Gender and Governance staff just returned from a vibrant and inspiring meeting in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. WEDO co-organized this consultation with a local partner organization, The Leadership Forum. The meeting brought together representatives from the UN, the government, and a diverse range of local NGOs to discuss how gender and civil society have been integrated in the pilot project so far and make recommendations on how to improve the process as it moves forward. We are now getting ready to leave for Ha Noi, Viet Nam, for another consultation with similar objectives. WEDO is pioneering this kind of independent assessment of the One UN pilots, which is extremely timely and aims to be relevant to grassroots communities in the pilot countries.
