Berlin, Germany (September 13-17, 2015) – Last week, WEDO’s Juliana Velez joined international experts and activists from feminist movements, environmental movements, and trade unions in Berlin, Germany for a two-day strategic workshop on “The Way Forward: A Caring and Sustainable Economy”, hosted by Friedrich Ebert Stiftung. The discussions focused on ways to integrate different regional and thematic perspectives in order to elaborate the concept note, “A Caring and Sustainable Economy: A Concept Note from a Feminist Perspective.”

Juliana presented examples of how WEDO incorporates a caring economy into international policy and advocacy work. Other actors including development economists joined the group for the final round-table, “Drivers & Spoilers for a Transition Towards a Caring and Sustainable Economic Model.” Effective strategies on how to move forward were shared by all including partners from the Programme on Women’s Economic Social and Cultural Rights (PWESCR), Development Alternatives with Women for a New Era (DAWN), Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), Canadian Private Foundation, Leuphana University, University of Toronto, Networked Inelligence for Development, ANANDI, and ABANTU for Development.
