New York (January 19, 2017) – WEDO would like to share the Center for Women’s Global Leadership’s top three feminist demands for the incoming Trump Administration:
1. RECOGNIZE that human rights are a woman’s right and gender-based violence is a human rights violation and COMMIT to eradicating it in all forms, such as intimate partner violence, workplace violence, sexual assault in schools, sexual harassment, and violence in prisons and detention centers, among others.
2. GUARANTEE that ALL women have equal access to quality healthcare, regardless of circumstances. This must include upholding Roe vs. Wade, stopping any measures to defund reproductive and sexual health services both within the US and internationally and having women be part of the decision making process for their health and wellbeing.
3. ACKNOWLEDGE climate change is a threat. Protect the environment and guarantee the rights of those impacted by its degradation, in ways such as ensuring access to clean water, protecting and preserving indigenous land and keeping the United States’ commitment to the Paris Climate Agreement.
We recognize that the decision to select three demands was difficult and appreciate you helping prioritize what must be in the forefront of policy discussions.
The Global Center will present these three selected demands to the Trump Administration and request a response within the first 100 days. During President-elect Trump’s four years in office, we will continue to work on holding his administration accountable to these demands and human rights for all.
We invite you to join us to exercise our right not to remain silent.
