NEW YORK (March 24, 2015)— Last week, on March 16th, WEDO Board Chair Marcela Tovar-Restrepo joined Ambassador Sandra Fuentes-Berain, Consul General of Mexico in New York on NY1 Noticias, to discuss 20 years of progress for women, and key challenges for the future. The interview is in Spanish, and WEDO highlighted the continued need to amplify women’s participation and gender equality as central to climate justice and climate change planning/policy formulation, as well as the importance of the upcoming Post2015 negotiations and COP21. In addition, Marcela highlighted that diversity and migration are important issues when addressing women’s contributions and needs for sustainable development, especially to the political and economic realms, highlighting key issues for women who migrate from Latin America to the United States. Ambassador Sandra Fuentes-Berain spoke of the importance of engaging and promoting local immigrant women’s organizations, emphasizing their work to prevent domestic violence and successfully adapt into multicultural environments.
