NEW YORK (February 14, 2013)– As is now tradition here, today on Valentine’s Day, WEDO (@WEDO_Worldwide) will celebrate Valentine’s Day by giving LOVE to the many amazing organizations, individuals and women’s rights and environmental champions who support, inspire and embolden our work at WEDO.

In addition, WEDO takes this occasion to stand with activists around the world to mobilize for ending violence against women and girls. WEDO understands, as a colleague stated eloquently this week, “any act of violence against a woman is an act of violence against society.” In all spheres, as WEDO works to promote human rights, environmental integrity and a sustainable future, ending violence against women remains a central tenant in achieving our vision of a just and peaceful world.

In that vein, the first #WEDOLoves will go to V-Day‘s One Billion Rising #1billionrising. Hosted in celebration of  V-Day’s 15th Anniversary, 14 February 2013, (those activists who brought us the Vagina Monologues and led campaigns each year to reclaim VDay as a day to end violence), are inviting ONE BILLION women and those who love them to WALK OUT, DANCE, RISE UP, and DEMAND an end to this violence. ONE BILLION RISING will move the earth, activating women and men across every country. V-Day wants the world to see our collective strength, our numbers, our solidarity across borders.

THAT, is an idea #WEDOLoves.
