SRHR & Climate Justice Coalition

Bridging health, rights, and climate movements to advance justice-centered climate action.

The Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights and Climate Justice (SRHR & CJ) Coalition brings together feminist, youth, health, and climate justice organizations to advance rights-based approaches to climate action.

A Convergence of Aligned Organizations

We create space for collaboration, shared analysis, and joint advocacy that ensures sexual and reproductive health and rights are recognized as central to climate justice.

The Coalition serves as a connective platform across movements that have historically worked in silos, despite facing deeply interconnected challenges.

Why This Coalition Matters

Climate change directly affects sexual and reproductive health and rights through impacts on health systems, access to care, bodily autonomy, and gender-based violence. These impacts are most acute for women, girls, LGBTQIA+ communities, Indigenous Peoples, and others facing structural inequality, particularly in the Global South.

Yet SRHR is often excluded from climate policy discussions, and climate justice perspectives are frequently absent from health and rights spaces. Without intentional collaboration, policies and solutions fail to address the full scope of lived realities.

How the Coalition Works

Through the SRHR and Climate Justice Coalition, we:

  • Convene diverse organizations across SRHR, climate justice, feminist, and youth movements
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing and collective analysis at the SRHR-climate nexus
  • Develop shared advocacy strategies and joint commitments
  • Coordinate coalition meetings, communications, and action plans
  • Amplify the priorities and leadership of grassroots and frontline organizations

The Coalition is currently co-convened by WEDO alongside partners including ARROW, Women Deliver, and Ipas. Conveners serve as organizers and connectors, supporting coordination while remaining accountable to the broader membership.

Aligning SRHR & CJ Movements

The Coalition strengthens collective power by aligning movements around shared goals and expanding how climate justice is understood and practiced. It helps ensure that climate policies and solutions reflect the realities of bodily autonomy, health access, care, and rights, particularly for those most affected by climate change.

By working together, Coalition members are better positioned to influence global and national policy processes and to advance integrated, justice-centered approaches.

A Shared Commitment to Action

In 2021, the Coalition submitted a joint commitment at the Generation Equality Forum, committing to advance bodily autonomy, sexual and reproductive health and rights, and feminist climate justice through coordinated advocacy and collaboration. This commitment reflects the Coalition’s long-term vision of sustained cross-movement action rather than short-term alignment.

The Coalition’s work is guided by agreed Terms of Reference that outline its purpose, principles, and structure, ensuring transparency and shared ownership.

How this Coalition Connects to Our Broader Work

The SRHR and Climate Justice Coalition builds collective power by connecting movements, moves minds by expanding dominant narratives about climate justice, and supports systemic change by advancing rights-based approaches within global governance spaces.
