New York– On Wednesday, February 9th WEDO in partnership with Earth Day Network participated in the 2011 Good Jobs, Green Jobs National Conference, in a workshop entitled, Women’s Leadership in the ‘Green Economy”. The panel was moderated by WEDO’s Bridget Burns and included:

  • Kathleen Rogers, President, Earth Day Network
  • Eleanor Blomstrom, Sustainable Development Coordinator, WEDO
  • Nicole Zarafonetis, Climate Change Lead, Gender Action

The purpose of the workshop was to discuss the importance of women’s leadership, mentorship, and training in advancing the ‘green economy’; examine gender-responsive financing; and share examples of successful initiatives from around the world.

There was an engaging group of participants in the audience, bringing to light issues such as defining the term ‘green economy’, promoting women’s thought leadership, and advancing women’s reproductive rights in a ‘green economy’.

Ideas from this workshop will feed into the work WEDO is doing to prepare for Rio+20. For more information on these activities, contact WEDO-Rio2012@wedo.org
