After filing a complaint against Nike through the United Nations Global Compact Complaint Mechanism, WEDO had two meetings with Nike representatives in 2008 about the perennially unjust conditions of workers in Nike’s supply chain factories. Nike is a member of the compact–a voluntary initiative that commits a company to engage in sustainable and responsible business practices. The ensuing dialogue with Nike led WEDO to initiate a fact-finding project with partners that will help supply chain factories incorporate three interlocking principles: decent work, green jobs and women’s labor rights.
