Bonn, Germany, June 4, 2010 — WEDO, as part of the Women and Gender Constituency at the UNFCCC, submitted a joint intervention regarding civil society participation in the United Nations Climate Change conferences. Six of the nine constituencies collaborated to outline the importance of Civil Society contributions and to recommend mechanisms for further full and transparent involvement in the process. The statement was well-received by Parties, who voiced broad support for the recommendations, as well for civil society participation in general. Download the Joint Intervention here.

Civil Society requested and was granted the statement opportunity after an ironic moment on Tuesday June 1, when observer organizations were not allowed to take the floor in prepared statements on the matter of ‘civil society participation.’ Click here for a full article on this matter from ECO.
