During Climate Week 2024, WEDO was thrilled to join The Shine Collab, MADRE, Ford Foundation and the Wallace Global Fund to host a conversation on “Powering the Gender Just Energy Transition.”
The dialogue brought together donors, advocates and movement leaders from across the gender, climate, human rights and development sectors to dive into powerful case studies — from Zimbabwe, South Africa, India and the US — and power-centered policy analysis, exploring the challenges and opportunities for delivering a transformational just energy transition.
In this context, philanthropy must play a pivotal role by partnering with communities and advocates, advancing people-centered, rights-based, and systems-change approaches. As top-down technological solutions, often accompanied by displacement and destruction, remain the status quo, we must instead pursue a gender just transition—one that literally and democratically puts power in the hands of the people.
As we continue the conversation and collaboration across donors, advocates, activists, and practitioners around a gender just energy transition, we invite you to share your current work and priorities in this follow-up survey.
We are eager to think together about upcoming opportunities for generating resources, sharing knowledge and experience, and working across movement spaces and organizations after this powerful event.
