NEW YORK (June 20, 2014)– On Saturday June 7th at the Bonn intersessional of the UN climate negotiations, USAID, IUCN, WEDO, REDD+ SES, and the UN-REDD Programme co-hosted an event entitled: “Raising the Bar, Best Practices from Gender and REDD+ Programs and Projects”.
The panel highlighted key results from a 3-day technical workshop in Washington, DC, 13-15 May 2014. Seeking to foster direct learning exchange across countries and contexts to enhance gender-responsive REDD+ processes at all levels, the workshop brought together 52 policymakers and practitioners from more than 20 countries. Among many important highlights from the workshop shared, the side event in Bonn revealed how efforts to integrate gender and REDD+ present an opportunity to leverage results/impact into broader climate change and sustainable development spheres, harmonizing gender-responsive policies and reforms (i.e. ‘raising the bar’ for REDD+’s impact for broader development challenges and goals).
