This is the fifth in the “Global Gender and Climate Alliance Webinar Series” on issues that affect gender and climate change.

Countries are beginning to implement policies and programs to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that were signed last September. Gender and climate change are cross-cutting issues throughout the 17 goals and 169 targets. In advance of the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development taking place from 11-20 July, this webinar is an opportunity to explore how to ensure gender and climate change are at the forefront of SDG implementation, including what gender and climate advocates can do to hold their countries accountable and monitor progress.

High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development

The High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development is United Nations central platform for the follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals, adopted at the United Nations Sustainable Development Summit on 25 September 2015.

The Forum, which adopts a Ministerial Declaration, is expected to start effectively delivering on its mandates to provide political leadership, guidance and recommendations on the 2030 Agenda’s implementation and follow-up; keep track of progress; spur coherent policies informed by evidence, science and country experiences; as well as address new and emerging issues.

This year 2016, the HLPF session will include voluntary reviews of 22 countries and thematic reviews of progress on the Sustainable Development Goals, including cross-cutting issues, supported by reviews by the ECOSOC functional commissions and other inter-governmental bodies and forums. HLPF will also include a range of side events, a Partnership Exchange event, and SDGs Learning, Training and Practice sessions.

Speakers at the CCGA Webinar series include:

  • Eleanor Blomstrom, Program Director, Women’s Environment & Development Organization (WEDO)
  • Jessica Espey, Associate Director, Sustainable Development Solutions Network
  • Verona Collantes, Intergovernmental Specialist, UN Women

Moderator:

  • Iliana Paul, GGCA Program Officer
