NEW YORK (July, 15) – On July 13, WEDO’s Bridget Burns was thrilled to participate in the 2013 Girls’ Leadership Workshop of the Eleanor Roosevelt Center at Val-kill, a transformational nine-day program for high school girls who desire to make a difference in their own lives, their communities and the world. Guided by Eleanor Roosevelt’s life and legacy as a model, girls diverse in culture and geography bring their passion and leadership potential to life.

Bridget had the opportunity to speak with some of the girls about their ‘Ambassador Projects’- projects they hope to complete when they go home, specifically sharing some thoughts and insights on advocacy, grassroots organizing, and community engagement. From projects to teach religious tolerance in schools, start support groups for young teens facing depression and eating disorders, break down cultural taboos on menstruation and its links to girls education in rural India, and raising awareness of human trafficking– on the heels of Malala Day, we can be sure that the next generation of young women are already leading and acting for a better world.
