NEW YORK (July, 17 2014)– In September, heads of state are going to New York City for a historic summit on climate change.

Igniting ambition, action and urgency to this moment, in New York City there will be an unprecedented climate mobilization – in size, beauty, and impact. This moment will not be just about New York or the United States. Heads of state from around the world will be there, as will the attention of global media.

No single meeting or summit will “solve climate change” and in many ways this moment will not even really be about the summit. This moment is about the people who are standing up in our communities, to organize, to build power, to confront the power of fossil fuels, and to shift power to a just, safe, peaceful world which promotes and protects human rights.

To Change Everything, It Takes Everyone.

WEDO and its partners are excited to host a Women’s Mobilizing Meeting for the People’s Climate March:

Thursday, July 24th from 6:30pm to 8pm
Church Center for the United Nations, 2nd Floor, 777 UN Plaza
(Corner of 1st Avenue & 44th Street), New York, NY 10017

There will be a follow-up National Call on Tuesday, July 29th at 11:30am EST

This meeting will be a space for people who are engaged in women’s issues, organizations, feminist collectives/ alliances, and the wide-range of non-profits that serve the women, locally and nationally, to mobilize a strong presence for the September 21st ‘People’s Climate March’ in NYC and to expand women’s reach and leadership on climate issues!

Next Thursday, July 24th, would have also been the birthday of WEDO’s co-founder and visionary, Bella Abzug, and it’s a day which WEDO likes to honor in memory of her work, leadership and activism on women’s rights and the environment. Among the remarkable qualities of Bella was her tremendous capacity for optimism, and her unwavering belief in the power of movements and women organizing for change.  As we meet together next week we’ll take on Bella’s call to action:

“Never underestimate the importance of what we are doing here. Never hesitate to tell the truth. And never, ever give in or give up.” – Bella Abzug
