Mwanahamisi (“Mishy”) Singano

WEDO is thrilled to welcome Mwanahamisi (“Mishy”) Singano as Senior Global Policy Lead.

Mwanahamisi is an African feminist passionate about fighting structural and intersecting inequalities while contributing to a fairer, more just, equal and sustainable world. Over the last 15 years, she has worked with women’s rights organizations, civil societies and governments in developing strategies, building partnerships, managing programs, and engaging communities towards the promotion and protection of women’s rights and the health of the planet.

Could you share an interesting fact about yourself?

In my spare time, I love to learn and document stories and tales of African traditions on marriage, intimacy and sexuality.

What are you excited to bring to the WEDO team?

My whole being—Mishy of today is the product of societies that embraced me and feminists who sacrificed a lot to liberate my soul and my conscious. The wholeness of me shapes the terrain of my thoughts, views I hold and knowledge I earned. I am excited to share that with WEDO and the entire feminist clan. More so, I am excited that I have allowed myself to be shaped and nurtured by feminists I will meet and interact with during my time with WEDO.

What’s your vision toward #FeministClimateJustice, or one thing that is most important to you in this work?

Centering FEMINISTS. I feel the world is getting comfortable co-opting feminist ideas while rejecting, abusing and exploiting feminist bodies and souls. Human rights need to be promoted and protected if feminist climate justice is to be attained.

What’s bringing you hope for the year ahead?

Feminist power and solidarity!
