Making gender integration in climate policy visible, measurable, and accountable.

The Gender Climate Tracker provides accessible data and analysis on how gender equality is reflected in global climate policy and national implementation.
We track gender mandates, participation, and progress under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and related processes, offering tools that help advocates, policymakers, and institutions understand what is happening and where gaps remain.
The Tracker is designed to support real world decision making by turning complex policy commitments into usable insights.
“Successful implementation that leaves no one behind requires gender-disaggregated data to identify the gender gaps and move away from tokenistic implementation of strategies by governments towards gender inclusion and well-being.”
— Bridget Burns, WEDO Executive Director
Governments have made repeated commitments to gender equality in climate policy, yet implementation often falls short. Without clear, accessible information, it is difficult to assess progress, identify gaps, or hold institutions accountable.
While gender is increasingly referenced in global climate agreements, ambition remains limited and follow-through uneven. Reliable, gender responsive data is essential to move beyond symbolic commitments toward meaningful change.
Through the Gender Climate Tracker, we:
The Tracker is available as both a website and mobile application, enabling users to access information before, during, and after key climate negotiations.
The Gender Climate Tracker helps users understand where progress is being made and where action is needed. By making data visible and accessible, the Tracker supports evidence-based advocacy, strengthens implementation of gender commitments, and helps shift climate policy toward greater accountability and inclusion.
Meaningful implementation requires gender disaggregated data that moves policy beyond tokenism and toward real well-being.
WEDO has a long history of tracking gender commitments and participation across global policy spaces. From monitoring Agenda 21 and the Beijing Platform for Action to documenting gender mandates within the UNFCCC and tracking women’s participation on national delegations, this work laid the foundation for the Gender Climate Tracker.
In 2016, we launched the Tracker as a centralized, public platform. Since then, it has evolved into a global hub for information on gender and climate policy, supporting accountability and implementation at multiple levels.
The Gender Climate Tracker moves minds by making information accessible and actionable. It supports power shifting by strengthening advocacy and accountability, and it complements WEDO’s coalition and leadership work by grounding policy debates in evidence.
