Women’s groups from around the world have urged the creation of a well-resourced, independent women’s entity that would ensure the effective implementation of gender equality goals and gender mainstreaming throughout the UN system.
On the eve of the Coherence Panel’s meeting in Oslo, WEDO and the Global Center have created a fact sheet–sent to Coherence Panel members–on the characteristics and functions of a strong operational arm of the new women’s entity. WEDO emphasizes the importance of an operational capacity as a requirement for transforming UN commitments to women’s advancement.
