As climate and environmental governance shifts from setting norms to implementing solutions, data has become a decisive arena of power.
Who produces knowledge, whose experiences are counted, and what evidence shapes policy increasingly determines which communities benefit from climate action and which remain invisible.
In 2025, WEDO advanced feminist data infrastructure through the Gender and Environment Data Alliance (GEDA), working to ensure that the evidence used in climate policy, finance, and accountability reflects lived realities, intersectional impacts, and feminist priorities.
A central pillar of this work was the launch of the GEDA Data Fellowship, a program designed to support practitioners who are generating and using gender–environment data at the local level.
The inaugural cohort brought together 11 participants, including seven fellows connected to GEDA’s Small Grants Program, which supports locally led feminist data initiatives in Afghanistan, Uganda, Ghana, Sri Lanka, and Costa Rica. Through the fellowship, participants strengthened their capacity to translate community-rooted evidence into policy-relevant narratives that can influence climate governance debates on adaptation, climate finance, and loss and damage.
Throughout the year, fellows participated in six global learning and exchange sessions, building a growing community of feminist data practitioners working across regions and sectors. The program emphasized peer learning, collective reflection, and practical tools to help fellows bring local knowledge into global policy conversations.
For many participants, the experience was about more than technical skills. It was about building confidence and solidarity to lead change.
“The GEDA Fellowship was a transformative experience. It gave me the tools, confidence, and network to lead impactful, inclusive change.”

“This was not only a fellowship, but a journey of growth, empowerment, and solidarity. Thank you for trusting us with this opportunity.”

As climate governance enters a new phase focused on implementation, initiatives like the GEDA Fellowship are helping ensure that feminist data practitioners are equipped to shape the evidence base behind decisions that affect communities worldwide.
By investing in locally led data initiatives and strengthening a global network of practitioners, WEDO and GEDA are helping build a feminist data infrastructure capable of advancing accountability, equity, and just climate solutions.
